Safety & Access

Walk-In Tub Conversions & Safeway Step®

Your existing tub converted for safe, easy access in less than a day. No tear-out, no remodel.

Walk-In Tub Conversions & Safeway Step®

Climbing over a high tub wall is the single biggest fall risk in most bathrooms, and a full accessible remodel costs thousands and takes weeks. A conversion solves the same problem in less than a day. Using the MBTR Custom Tub Alteration process, we cut a custom opening of any size into your existing tub and finish it cleanly, or install a Safeway Step® insert with an optional door. The tub stays. The barrier goes.

Often paired with slip protection, bathtub refinishing, and soft bottom repair, since combining work in one visit keeps the total cost down.

Available in North Bay, Greater Sudbury, Huntsville, and the rest of our Northern Ontario service area.

How it works

  1. 01
    Measure and plan

We look at your tub, who is using it, and how much clearance they need, then size the opening or step insert to match.

  2. 02
    Cut the opening

The MBTR Custom Tub Alteration process cuts a custom opening into the existing tub without removing it. There is no demolition and no plumbing work.

  3. 03
    Finish and seal

The cut is capped, sealed, and finished to match the tub, or fitted with a Safeway Step insert and optional watertight door.

  4. 04
    Use it that evening

Conversions are generally done in less than a day, at a fraction of the cost of a full bathroom remodelling job.

FAQ

Walk-In Conversions: questions we hear most.

Straight answers from the crew doing the work. If yours is not here, call and ask.

How is this different from buying a walk-in tub?
A purpose-built walk-in tub means removing your existing tub, plumbing changes, and a price tag many times higher. A conversion modifies the tub you already own, is generally done in less than a day, and costs a fraction of a remodel.
Can the opening be cut to a custom size?
Yes. The MBTR Custom Tub Alteration process creates an opening of any size, so we can match it to the mobility needs of the person using it.
Can I still take a bath afterwards, or only showers?
That depends on the option you choose. A step cut-out converts the tub for walk-in shower use, while a Safeway Step with a sealed door can keep the tub bathable. We will walk you through both before any cutting happens.
Who is this for?
Anyone who finds the tub wall a barrier: seniors aging in place, people recovering from surgery, and facilities like seniors’ residences and hotels that need safer bathing without renovation downtime.
Does a conversion work with slip protection?
Yes, and we recommend combining them. A textured slip-resistant bottom plus an easy entry covers the two biggest bathroom fall risks in one visit.
